A Guide to Caring for Your Flowers Unwrapping Your Flowers Here at Montrose Flowers we only use the freshest blooms available so that all of our floral arrangements are as beautiful as can be. We import all of our flowers directly from their site of cultivation in Holland, which are then conditioned, cleaned and then arranged in either a bouquet or floral arrangement by our expert florists in Montrose. We want to give our customers the best quality flowers and Dutch flowers truly are the best available. Because we strive to use the freshest flowers in all of our arrangements we advise that your flowers may take up to 48 hours to fully bloom. Your flowers should last up to twice as long because of their freshness, so that your loved ones can enjoy them for as long as possible. Of course, due to the different types of flowers that we supply, some will bloom earlier than others. If you plan to put your flowers in a vase or container of your own then please be sure to remove any extra foliage. If the foliage is left on and sits in the water then this will increase the bacteria and therefore will affect the flowers as the water will be infested. Although the gerbera is beautiful, it is quite vulnerable to large amounts of bacteria when in water. Montrose Florists suggest that you should always freshly cut your flowers before placing them into a vase of your own, as this will allow the stems to take in a large amount of water thus ensuring that you gain every essence of beauty from your flowers. If the stems are dry then water will not reach the flowers, therefore if you cut them regularly you will ensure that your flowers do not die of thirst. We advise that you cut the stems at an angle and at about 2cm above the end of the stem, which will ensure long-lasting freshness. Although it has been common practice to smash the ends of the stems to increase water flow, Florists Montrose would advise against this as it may damage the vessels within the stems which will have an effect on your flowers ability to absorb water. Arranging your Flowers Once you have unwrapped your beautiful Montrose Flowers you can prepare them to be placed in an exquisite vase of your choosing. If you wish, we can arrange your flowers in a vase for you, provided by ourselves at a little extra cost, to save you the time of arranging the flowers yourself. However, if you choose to arrange them yourself then ensure that the container is clean and filled with lukewarm water so as to aid the flow of water through the stem of the flower. We provide a flower care packet along with your delivery that consists of a little booklet advising you on how to care for your flowers and a sachet of flower food to promote growth. It would be best to add the sachet of flower food to the container before adding your flowers, and then make sure that the water does not reach the foliage as this will increase the rate at which the bacteria will form in the water. Temperature and Display Area Flowers Montrose recommends that you keep your flowers at a temperature of 18-22 Celsius at most. In high temperatures you flowers will wilt and in colder temperatures your flowers will be damaged by frost. Your flowers will last longer in a cooler place, especially if they are kept away from direct sunlight and any warm area such as next to a radiator or electrical appliance. If you leave your flowers somewhere that is too warm then this will result in your flowers being damaged and they will wither. Another variable which you should take into account when placing your flowers is ripening fruits, as they can also have an effect on your flowers as they produce small amounts of ethylene gas which can sometimes increase the growth rate of your flowers and stunt their life span.
